âShe got up off the couch and told me she had to go upstairs for a minute. I said, OK. When she got to the foot of the stairs, I turned my head to look at her and she was just standing there, staring at me with her eyes half-closed and a shit-eating grin on her face. It struck me that maybe she wanted me to follow her upstairs and weâd smoke some weed or something. She didnât say anything, so how was I supposed to know what she wanted? Anyway, I turned my head back around and focused on the TV.
âTwo minutes later, she came back downstairs, walked past me, and turned facing me with her arms hanging at her sides. She still had that goofy grin on her face, but everything else was missingâshe was completely naked.
âIâll be honest with you, Iâd probably had half a dozen glasses of wine up to that point, and I couldnât remember the last time Iâd seen a woman standing before me with no clothes on. So, she looked pretty good.
âI just sat there staring at her in a state of bewilderment. She said, âI neglected to ask you if youâd like to go upstairs with me.â Then she sauntered over to me, took hold of my hand, pulled me up off my chair, and led me up to the master bedroom.â
He took another drink of water and sighed. He turned his head and gazed out through the passenger window. âAfterwards, we were just lying there, staring up at the ceiling. She started talking about the prospect of divorcing Curt, and how difficult it would be trying to come to a fair settlement. She started talking about how nice it would be if he just up and bit the big one, but how that wouldnât happen without a little help in that direction from someone. Then she asked me if I would be interested in finding someone to work on that project.
âI couldnât believe what I was hearing. I thought there might be a chance I was misinterpreting her meaning. So, I asked her what she was talking about, and she said, âIâd like you to find somebody to kill my husband. Are you interested?â
âI was in shock. I couldnât believe what sheâd just asked me. Up to that point, I thought sheâd seduced me because she was in the mood, and here was this younger, hotter looking version of her husband, ripe for the picking. But, all she wanted was somebody to kill Curt.â
âWhat did you tell her?â Alice said.
âI told her I wasnât sure. I asked what would be in it for me. She said, thirty thousand dollars. Ten beforehand, and twenty after sheâs notified of Curtâs death. She said I could have all of the money if I did the job myself. Or, if I wanted to sub-contract it, I could split it up any way I wanted to with the other party.
âSo, we got out of bed and got dressed.
